Everyone wants more out of life - to feel better, to become more fulfilled, more successful, thinner, healthier or self-confident. People want to know how to solve their problems more quickly and push past the mental blockages that stand between themselves and the things that they want. No matter how simple or profound your goals are, hypnosis is one of THE best ways to help yourself or others to overcome issues and lead a better life. This post will show you some easy steps on how to become a hypnotist.
Nowadays things like life coaching, NLP and hypnotherapy have become more popular than ever as more and more people realise the potential that these methods offer. This has resulted in a greater demand for qualified people.
Can Anybody Become A Hypnotist?
The good news is that almost anyone can quickly and easily learn the techniques to hypnotise. Furthermore, for the person who succeeds in doing this to a high standard, a very rewarding career in which you help people to realise their potential and overcome many of their fears and negative beliefs awaits. And if you are anything like me, you’ll find it difficult to think of a better way to find meaning in your own life.
But there’s a catch. Not everyone can be a good hypnotist. In order to do this you really must have integrity, honesty and dedication as well as a genuine caring for humanity. Plus you need to be comfortable working very closely with people. When you take on the role of hypnotist, people will be sharing some of their most private things with you, not to mention things that hey will be feeling quite sensitive about. For many of these people, the prospect of seeing a hypnotist for the first time may be causing them some apprehension and they will be expecting to come into contact with someone who is sensitive towards their needs, caring, calm, trustworthy and friendly.
So I Want to Become a Hypnotist – Where Can I Start My Training?
One of the best ways begin your learning process is to find an someone with experience to guide you. It’s one thing to learn how to write scripts but it’s quite another thing to deliver suggestions to a live person. There are many subtleties involved like tone of voice and noticing small signs that a person is in a state of deep relaxation. All these little ”tricks of the trade” are really what makes a really good hypnotist stand apart from an average one.
You can also learn tips and increase your knowledge base by taking seminars and training programs run by authorised organisations. But make sure you check out the credentials of any person or organisation giving the information. There are many out there today who call themselves hypnotists but don’t really have the knowledge that a professional and experienced hypnotist has. The following link is an alternative medicine directory which has listings of such organisations in different countries. http://www.alternativemedicinedirectory.org/professional-hypnotherapy-associations.
Once you have done these things, it is time to start practising. At first, I would recommend practising on yourself. Self hypnosis can be rewarding as you can improve yourself while practising your hypnosis skills. You can download suggestion scripts or write your own, record them and then see how they work. Download some sample sessions which many practitioners have on their websites or on youtube. (Youtube is a great source of samples, both good and bad, so be careful, you may want to do some research on the person before you start using them as an example). Steve G Jones, one of the world’s most renowned hypnotists (He is a member of the National Guild of Hypnotists, American Board of Hypnotherapy, president of the American Alliance of Hypnotists, author of 14 books on the subject and has his own school of hypnotherapy) has many sample videos on Youtube, but you may also want to research Dr. Mike Mandel.
When you feel ready, start practising on a friend. Do the simple things first like basic inductions. Basic inductions are important and get the client ready, then do some basic suggestion routines like self-confidence.
Do You Need to Do A Course to Become A Hypnotist?
One great way I found to make the learning process easier was to look into doing a course and if you want to become certified, then this is a must. You can do a basic online course, in which materials and sample scripts are provided. They are relatively inexpensive but are comprehensive enough to give you a better understanding of what hypnosis is all about. I can recommend trying the Basic Hypnotist Certification course, which includes 4 coursebooks and is presented by Steve Jones, AND will get you certified by the American Alliance of Hypnotists, all for the amazing value of $47.

I have attached a video of Steve giving an overview of what the course entails.
